This video was shot during the December 1996 field test of Rocky 7. The rover is traveling along Spa Crater. Rocky 7's obstacle avoidance system requires it to move in short increments, pausing about every foot. While stopped, the rover scans the area ahead with its navigation cameras, finds a clear path, and maneuvers accordingly. During the December test, Rocky 7's average speed was around 1.82 m/minute.
