This video was shot during the first day (Tuesday, 12/17/96) of the December 1996 field test of Rocky 7. It is similar to the closeup imaging sequence during the second day (Wednesday, 12/18/96). The rover positions its mast against a rock covered with caliche deposits to take a close-up image. This test was designed to demonstrate the ability of the rover to place the "can" on its mast against objects. This ability will be very important when the "can" houses a spectrometer.
