Ocassionally a cinder from the cobble covering much of the playa would become jammed between a wheel and its housing, causing the rover to drag the wheel. Engineers were able to pry such pebbles with their hands or a screwdriver. Rocky 7 continued to move during these periods, but its navigation was affected because the rover counts the revolutions of its wheels to determine distance. Click on the image for a larger photo.
