Remote attendees may see the live presentations using Adobe Connect. Go to https://wustl.adobeconnect.com/pdsmc/. You'll need to have Adobe Flash enabled in your web browser. IE, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome browsers are supported. To test your connection ahead of time go to http://admin.adobeconnect.com/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm. Note that you do not need to complete the final step of the test, installing the Adobe Connect browser plug-in, unless you want to be able to share your computer's desktop with the meeting. We're not expecting any of the remote attendees to need to do this.

Note also that we are not using Adobe Connect's audio support for this meeting. You'll need to call the meeting phone number above to hear the audio.

Agenda and Presentations

Please email your presentations to Susie ahead of time to be posted here.

Lodging

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Knight Center, a University conference facility on campus within walking distance of the meeting location. Rates and amenities are comparable to area hotels. Call toll free 866-933-9400 and say that you are with the Earth and Planetary Sciences group, whose contact is Margo Mueller. The rate of $119 per night is guaranteed if you make your reservation before April 1. Breakfast is included.

Note that our meeting place is not at the Knight Center, it is at Gregg House on the South Forty, about a ten-minute walk. Here's the Google Map showing both locations (and here's a PDF map, if you don't use Google Maps).

Here is a list of other hotels in the Clayton-University City area.

Transportation

Driving: The drive from the St. Louis Airport to the Washington University Knight Center is about 15-20 minutes in normal traffic. Here are a map and directions. Short version of the driving directions: Take I-70 east from the airport, to I-170 south, exit at Forest Park Parkway, go east 4.8 miles through Clayton, past Big Bend Boulevard, and turn right on Throop Drive, the first light after Big Bend.

Public transportation: Board the Metrolink train at the airport. This is the western terminus of the Red Line. Get off at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station and board the Blue Line Westbound headed toward Shrewsbury. The next two stops on the westbound Blue Line serve Washington University. The second one, University City-Big Bend, is 1.5 blocks from the Knight Center. See this Metrolink map. The fare is $4.00, and you must purchase your ticket and validate it before boarding the train. It's good for both trains.

Parking

Guests at the Knight Center should park in the nearby Millbrook garage. Other visitors to campus should park in the surface lots marked Yellow Parking, or in the underground garage at the Danforth University Center (DUC). Otherwise, visitor parking is scarce. There is no all-day visitor parking on the South Forty. See Susie for yellow parking permits.

Maps

Summary of maps mentioned above:

Meals

Breakfast: If you're staying at the Knight Center, breakfast is included in your room rate.

At the meeting: Coffee, tea, water and muffins will be available in the morning, coffee, tea, water, soda and cookies in the afternoon.

Lunch: The Bear's Den food court on the South Forty is closest to the meeting site and is recommended because it will be the least busy location. The Danforth University Center (DUC) food court on the main campus is only a little farther away, back the way you came, if you walked to the meeting from the Knight Center. Ibby's is a sit-down restaurant in the DUC. Here are details on these and other campus dining locations. FYI, Wash U. is ranked second among U.S. universities for Best Campus Food.

Reception: All meeting attendees are invited to a reception in the Goldberg Lounge on the second floor of the Danforth University Center, at 6:15 pm Tuesday, April 21. The reception is hosted by the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences at Washington University.

Dinner:  On campus, Ibby's in the DUC and the Pub at the Knight Center are open in the evening. Off campus, there are restaurants in the University City Loop to the north of campus, Clayton to the west, and the Central West End to the east.

Washington University does not sell bottled water. You are encouraged to bring your own refillable water container.

St. Louis, Missouri Weather

St. Louis weather in April is hard to predict. It may be sunny and warm or rainy and cold. Check the forecast before packing, and bring an umbrella anyway.
