Test Info

The field test site is Lunar Crater, near Black Rock Summit in Nevada. The closest towns are Ely and Tonopah (both approx. 80 miles away in different directions).

Transportation: The closest airport is in Ely. Sunrise Airlines (888-252-8646) flies into it from Reno and Las Vegas (see below for the Ely-Vegas schedule). In Ely you can rent a car from Avis, by calling the same number for Sunrise Airlines (the woman who answers the phone does both reservations). You can also fly into Las Vegas or Reno and drive to the site (approx. 4-5 hours). We are making an effort to limit the number of vehicles on-site. If you will only be on site for a few days, please contact Cassie (dunham@wunder.wustl.edu) about alternatives.

Lodging: The teams from JPL and Ames will each have their own RVs and/or tents and will be relatively self-containted. The team from Washington University will be staying in Ely. Anyone not associated with these groups will need to be responsible for his or her own lodging solution. Participants are welcome to camp at the site, or drive back to Ely at night (~80 miles). Ely has a number of hotels and motels, including a Holiday Inn, a Best Western, and many local motels. Please contact Cassie with any questions.

Food: Because of the remoteness of the test site, participants will need to bring food with them.

Schedule: Please look at the field schedule and make sure your information is correct. Contact Cassie with any changes.

Sunrise Air to/from Las Vegas-Ely:
Sunrise flys FROM Las Vegas at 6:45 p.m., arriving Ely at 8:10 p.m. Sunday through Friday.
Sunrise flys FROM Ely at 7:15 a.m., arriving Las Vegas at 8:40 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
So, you can't fly into Ely on a Saturday or out on a Sunday.
