Computer System

The Earth and Planetary Remote Sensing Laboratory computer system is comprised of internal and external subsystems. The internal system includes workstations, servers, disk storage, and printers to support lab staff and students in their daily duties. The external system consists of clustered web and database servers, and data processing servers.

Support hardware includes 40TB of RAID50 data storage via a dedicated storage area network, a 6-LTO4 drive tape backup library, and dedicated redundant hardware firewalls. Components are constantly monitored for performance issues and technicians paged for human intervention when necessary. All hardware has battery backup to maintain service during short power outages.
